Religious organizations often deal with the same struggles of everyday business. While there is an element of faith and devotion involved in retaining a following, there are things you can do to increase your membership and their engagement. With the right support system in place, such as energetic leadership, church software and financial stability, you can increase the effectiveness of your ministry.
Make your growth goals public.
If you are the only one in your church thinking about growth, chances are you won’t be very successful with any endeavors. Churches are fortunate to have a body of individuals motivated by the same thing, which should make it easier to enlist support and encourage for outreach programs or changes. By conferring with church leadership, other members with the same desires and creating a marketing campaign, your growth goals become public knowledge and can gain more traction.
Establish your priorities and stick with them.
Many churches are involved in outreach programs and activities which have little long-term impact. Member and volunteer burnout increases over time, leaving your staff and support network with low morale and a disinterest in following the program over several years. Narrow down your programs to those that support your desire for growth and keep the focus on those.
Look for areas that show the most potential.
While over-the-top blitz activities will draw big crowds, these are often short-term attendance boosters. Areas that show the most potential for long-term growth involve children and youth. If you are interested in attracting young families who are looking for a reason to commit, you don’t want your approach to ministry chaotic and lagging. Strong programs are organized, hassle-free, safe, engaging and age appropriate.
Church growth takes intentional efforts and committed staff. Making sure everyone is on board with your mission, action plan and follow-through will increase your ability to attract more members of your community.
